top 20 recommended songs (new meme/quiz thing?)

Sat Mar 14, 2009, 2:08 AM
  • Mood: High
  • Listening to: allure - jigga man!
i have no idea why i'm doing a recommendation journal
something original i guess.
& i also cbf to do a quiz or some shit

tho i know a lot of ppl on here don't share the same musical taste as I do that is why i'm here to educate. & well, i have nothing better to do.
(i may actually end this journal with a quiz anyway) OH THE JOY :iconohjoyplz:

this could become a tagging thing? recommending films/songs/books.
ah fuck it.
anyways let me begin

TOP 20 SONGS I RECOMMEND:
(not in a particular order.)
BEWARE. there are songs that actually aren't rock based (shockhorrormuch?)

1. ChaiNREActioN- Ke$ha
the reason i've chosen this song by ke$ha is because it is really an ultimate dance track. & i am in love with her voice.
she doesn't get enough credit for that on flo rida's 'right round' where she is probably best known for adding 'you spin my head right round right round when you go down.' hardly showing her vocal ability.

2. Dance like a white boy - Master Shortie.
i have no idea how to describe this song in terms of genre. it mixes literally everything, electro, a little bit of rock, hip hop, rap, grime, popish sense.
and it one hell of a catchy assed song.

3. You'll find a way (remix) - Santoigold
when i first heard the original of this song i liked it. but for the first time ever, i actually prefered a remix of a song. the beat that has been added into this track is srsly to much. and santogold santigold's (never gonna get used to saying santigold> vocals are perfect for the beat.
ppl that continue to mention that santigold is like M.I.A. need to get their ears checked. santigold walks on M.I.A.'s musical ability in every possible way.

4. California - Zarif.
when i heard a zarif song on 4music a few weeks ago her voice hypnotized me and i had to find out who the fuck this woman was. even though i detest myspace to the pits of hell, i found her there and listened to some songs of hers (thank god you don't need to have an account to do so) and fell in love with all of her songs, particularly this one. the acoustics bring out her obvious vocal ability & the lyrics add to the originality of the song. it's got quite an edgy soulness to it.

5. So So - Gary Go
this guy, does have some serious talent. i usually don't get attracted to his kind of voice but this song is so soulful and the lyrics are very meaningful, coming from the heart. it's a greatly composed song and when i first heard it, i couldn't stop listening to it.

6. I'm Not Sorry - thecocknbullkid
i can't remember how long ago i heard this song but i was just browsing music online, as i usually do, and came across thecocknbullkid. i now realise why '2009' is supposed to be the 'electropop/synth year' and thecocknbullkid is one of the reasons why this year should be electropop based.

7. The sex has made me stupid - Robots in Disguise
this song is fairly old now (like santogold's remixed you'll find a way) but i still love it. it is an amazing dancy/rocky/electro sound to it. & i never skip it when it appears on my shuffled songs on my ipod, (which says alot for me as i usually skip the majority of songs on my ipod that i get bored of quickly.)

8. What love is - Mary j. blige ft. Ne-Yo
had to have an r&b slow jam/ballad in this list! i just can't have enough of that shiz. i'm not actually certain if this is on mary j's recent album (growing pains) ever since i broadened my horizons of genres a few years ago (i could only have one and it'd either be r&b or rock.) i've always respected mary j. blige. her voice is incredible, and one of the voices that should be respected no matter what music genre you like. and the combonation between the old (mary j) & the fairly new (ne-yo) works rlly well. both their voices blend in an unusually good way.

9. Alcohol - MILLIONAIRES
they can't sing, they can't rap, they have extremely irritating vocals (if you can call it that) but for some reason this song is amazingly catchy. the lyrics are hilarious (and frighteningly true.) generally, it's a great party song. & i have danced to this when i was drunk (the irony?)

(half way there now!) 10. Magnificent- Estelle ft. Kardinal offishal
yet another soulful voice in the list, estelle. my mum has been constently blasting this album non-stop over the past few months but i still can listen to the songs without thinking they're a pain in my ass! the joy. i do love all the songs on the album, but i specifically chose this one because i don't like kardinal's rapping in his own songs but it fits perfectly for this song.

11. Quickly - John legend ft. Brandy
john legend's voice is so soothing and so is brandy's husky kind of voice. both have been around for a while and doing a collab together was a really great move. love the lyrics and definitely one of the best collabs i've heard recently (meaning recently i heard this song a few months ago xD)

12. What if you - Joshua Radin
i don't really have much to say about this song. except, i have a weird obsession with acoustics and joshua radin fits himself into that obsession i have with acoustics. usually, i don't go for his kind of voice but the soul in this song makes it expectable and beautiful in a sense.

13. Only one in colour - Trapt
i recently heard this song (about a few weeks ago) i have no idea how i came across it on youtube but that generic rock really works for this song. i find myself singing along to the catchy lyrics (& could be considered meaningful) most of the time that i listen to this song. 'i live in a world of black & white & you're the only one in colour.' is probably the most corniest, but it really works for some reason.

14. Last of a dying bread- Ludacris ft. Lil Wayne
luda is just an amazing rapper, not the best of the best (that of course is titled to jay-z) apparently the rap pack is now Jay-Z, kanye, lil wayne & t.i.
get rid of Lil wayne and you'll then have the rap pack of the US. lil wayne's lyrics in this song actually work (he only seems to work well if he is featuring in a song) have you actually heard his new song prom queen?

15. Gretta edris- The carps
this song is so fucked up that you have to love it. i bet if you'd listen to this @ about 3am with all the lights off and no one in the room, it'd be scary. it is a good weird indie/rock song though. and the lyrics make no sense at all but it all works.

16. Darlin don't - Stephen Fretwell
another acoustic artist that needs recognition. i originally heard this song on the episode of skin 'Freddie' (freddie's episode obviously) i usually like all the songs they pick and sometimes have them already on my itunes. (which MILLIONAIRES alcohol song is on the next episode.) the song really did fit in perfectly with the WHOLE episode, not just the scene when freddie is alone in the skatepark.

17.Boardmeeting- timbaland ft. maggo
i think i've had this song transfered to all my different itunes through a year (it is pretty old now) but it still a fucking excellent tune. no one can deny that timbaland has a talent for creating catchy dance beats and this song is perfect proof of that.

18.Shake it shake it - THOMAS TANTRUM
even though lily allen has been going on about this band for ages (she actually does have some taste in music, even though her music is shite.) this sums up THOMAS TANTRUM's weird indie feel and unusual lyrics that don't really fit together.

19. Tigers & sharks- You me at six
not intirely sure how old this song is but i still love it. the best song of their album 'take off your colours' by farrrr. the lyrics are very intense & i love the lead singers voice. the song probably wouldn't work without their lead singers vocals on it.

20. (last but definitely not least) Allure- Jay-z
anyone that knows me, will know i  jay-z & paramore. this song is such an upbeat tune 'man i'm so high on life, i'm fucking wasted.' it just makes you want to smile. and jay-z is such a nice guy and definitely deserves all the recognition he gets.

fuck me that was long.
someone else do it as well!
so i tag everyone ;D
do it on anything, like websites/movies/tv programs(shows)/books/songs/albums etc.

i might do some more.
i like doing reviews anyway xD
